VISI Faculty: Terence Dawson

Terence DawsonPianist Terence Dawson is one of Vancouver's most respected musicians, his active career encompassing the realms of solo pianist, chamber musician and teacher. As concerto soloist, he has appeared with the Vancouver Symphony and National Arts Centre Orchestras, and has presented recitals of both solo and chamber music with numerous artists and ensembles across Canada, England, the USA and Southeast Asia. He has performed for the Vetta Chamber Series, Ottawa Chamber Music Society, CBC Debut recitals, with the Vancouver Chamber Choir, and has served as Artistic Director of Vancouver's celebrated Masterpiece Chamber Music Series as well as principal pianist with the CBC Curio Ensemble. His recordings for EMI Virgin Classics, Bravura Discs and Skylark as well as his numerous CBC Radio broadcast performances have garnered critical acclaim: "lucid" (Globe and Mail), "stunning" (Vancouver Sun), and possessing "trademark elegance and technical flair" (Georgia Straight). An engaging lecturer, clinician and adjudicator, each year Dr. Dawson presents many workshops and master classes across the country for both teachers and students including those for Conservatory Canada and the National Music Teacher’s Association. He has served as jury member for the Canadian Music Competition, Canada Council, Canadian Federation of Music Teacher's Association,Vancouver Foundation and is frequently invited to teach at summer programs across Canada. His solo and collaborative recitals this season will take him from coast to coast with invitations from the Victoria Conservatory of Music to Acadia University.

Terence Dawson’s principal piano studies were with the acclaimed Canadian pianist Jane Coop, and in Eastern Canada with Janet Hammock, Jamie Syer and Lynn Johnson. He is a member of the piano faculty at the UBC School of Music where he is Undergraduate Keyboard Division Coordinator and teaches piano, chamber music and collaborative studies.
