Susan
Youens received her Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1976 and is currently
the J. W. Van Gorkom Professor of Music at the University of Notre Dame.
She is the author of seven books on the songs of Franz Schubert and Hugo
Wolf, the most recent being Hugo Wolf and his Mörike Songs (Cambridge
University Press, 2000) and Schubert's Late Lieder: Beyond the Song Cycles
(Cambridge University Press, 2002). Her forthcoming book is entitled
Heinrich Heine and the Lied: The Early Years (Cambridge, 2007), and she
is currently working on two projects: A Social History of the Lied and
Schubert's Unknown Poets.
