Martha Guth
Acclaimed for her ‘intuitive sensitivity’ (Montreal Gazette) and her ‘thrilling top range, rare breath control and an awesome legato’ (Globe and Mail), soprano Martha Guth has emerged onto the international classical music scene as a finely developed and persuasive artist.
She began her career singing under the batons of world renowned conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Richard Bradshaw, Robert Spano, and Helmut Rilling. Operatic performances include Cornelia in Giulio Cesae in Egitto, by Sartorio, with the Canadian Opera Company, the 1st lady in The Magic Flute with the Grazer Oper in Graz, Austria and roles and major covers as an apprentice for the Santa Fe Opera. She has performed the role of the Countess in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro in Mallorca, Spain, Pamina in The Magic flute, and Konstanze in The Abduction from the Seraglio in Augsburg, Germany; Alcina in Handel’s Alcina, in Lucca, Italy; Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen; and Poulenc’s La voix Humaine for solo voice. In the realm of concert, Martha was recently seen in performance with Graham Johnson’s Young Song Makers concert series in London where where she also was recorded for the BBC. Along with other notable pianists, Martha will collaborate with Mr. Johnson again in Vancouver, Canada for the Vancouver International Song Institute this June. Other recitals and concerts have included the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The Hamilton Philharmonic, the Calgary Philharmonic, The Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Debut Series in Ottawa (CBC radio), Jeunesses Musicales recitals in Montreal, the Offcentre Music Salon in Toronto (CBC radio), and various recitals throughout Europe, The US and Canada. Upcoming for Martha include performances of Norina in Don Pasquale with the Toronto Philharmonia, Donna Anna in Mozarts’ the Don Giovanni, for Opera Lyra in Ottawa, Canada, Soprano soloist for Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. Martha currently lives and works New York City.
