Rhonwen Derbez

Vancouver-born soprano, Rhonwen Derbez has performed as a soloist on CBC, Radio-Canada, and in galas, concerts, oratorio and recitals in Vancouver, Toronto, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Italy. Operaticroles performed include Vanessa in Samuel Barber¹s Vanessa, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, the Vixen in Cunning Little Vixen, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Adele in Die Fledermaus, and Josephine in HMS Pinafore.  She also sang for five years with the Canadian Opera Company chorus.

Rhonwen holds a Performer¹s Certificate in Speech and Drama from Trinity College London and a BMus in Opera Performance from UBC¹s School of Music. She studied further at Centro Studi Lirica in Italy,  St. Andrew’s Opera Workshop in New Brunswick, and Summer Opera Lyric Theatre in Toronto.   She has been recognized by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Lotte Lehman Foundation, the Royal Conservatory of Music and was a winner of the Ontario Region National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards.

Now based in Toronto, Rhonwen’s most time consuming project of late has been staying home to raise her darling son who is three years old this Spring.
