Stefan Sunandan Honisch

Stefan Sunandan Honisch began studying music at the age of seven. After completing high-school, Mr. Honisch was accepted into the Bachelor of Music Program at the University of Victoria, where he studied piano performance with Ms. Eva Solar Kinderman, and composition with Dr. John Celona, and David Clenman. He graduated with distinction in 2004, and applied successfully for admission into the Master of Music Program at the University of British Columbia. Mr. Honisch completed his Master of Music in Piano Performance under the supervision of Professor Jane Coop, and his Master of Music in Composition under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Chatman.

In 2003, Mr. Honisch won the Johann Strauss Foundation-Hecht Memorial Scholarship to study in Austria. He participated in the prestigious Somerakademie at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he studied with Sergei Dorensky, and Pavel Gililov. The highlight of this trip was being selected to perform in an Akademiekonzert in the Wiener Saal of the Mozarteum. As well, Mr. Honisch has participated in masterclasses and coachings with Professor Rena Sharon, Professor Eugenia Choi, Mr. André Laplante, Mr. Andrew Parrott, Mr. Stéphane Lemelin, and Mr. Denes Szigmondi.

Mr. Honisch continues to be active as a soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist and teacher while pursuing a doctoral student at the Center for Cross Faculty Inquiry in Education, at the University of British Columbia. Under the supervision of Dr. Leslie Roman, Mr. Honisch is conducting an inquiry into the intersections of politics and art, in the work of musicians with disabilities working both inside and outside academia.
