Terence Dawson

Terence DawsonBritish born, Canadian pianist TERENCE DAWSON has firmly established himself as one of Vancouver’s most respected musicians. His reputation as a solo pianist, chamber musician, orchestral pianist, dedicated teacher and engaging lecturer has resulted in repeat invitations to both perform and conduct master classes for both teachers and students from coast to coast across Canada, as well as in the USA, England and Asia. He has appeared as concerto soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The National Arts Centre Orchestra, Curio Ensemble, and has collaborated with numerous artists and ensembles for many series including the Ottawa Chamber Music Society, Vetta Chamber Music and the CBC Debut Recital Series. He served as principal pianist for the CBC Curio Ensemble, and Artistic Director and pianist of Vancouver’s celebrated Masterpiece Chamber Music Series. A regular faculty member at the summer offerings of VISI and at Strings and Keys (a piano and strings program for young musicians), he has had numerous CBC radio broadcast performances, and has recorded on disc for Virgin Classics, Bravura Discs and Skylark labels. He was recently a featured musician for a CBC television documentary playing solo works of Brahms and Liszt. His performances have garnered critical acclaim: “lucid” (Globe and Mail), “stunning” (Vancouver Sun), and possessing “trademark elegance and technical flair” (Georgia Straight).  Dr. Dawson has also served as a jury member for many competitions including the Canadian Music Competition, The Canada Council, The Vancouver Foundation, and the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers where he was also an invited guest lecturer for their 2009 National Convention.

Immediately following doctoral studies with pianist Jane Coop, Terence Dawson joined the UBC School of Music faculty in 1991. He is the school’s undergraduate Keyboard Division Coordinator and teaches piano, chamber music and collaborative studies.
